New Book: Mantequero by Jenny Twist - About Mantequero by Jenny Twist: June was an overweight, unloved school teacher, used by her sisters as unpaid babysitter and carer for their ageing mother. When she finds out, however, that their long-term plan is for her to move in with her mother permanently, she rebels and goes off for an unplanned holiday in Spain, leaving her sisters to deal with her mother at Christmas. And there, in Spain, she met the man of her dreams. A man who liked fat girls...

Jenny Twist was born in York and brought up in the West Yorkshire mill town of Heckmondwike, the eldest grandchild of a huge extended family. She left school at fifteen and went to work in an asbestos factory. After working in various jobs, including bacon-packer and escapologist's assistant (she was The Lovely Tanya), she returned to full-time education and did a BA in history, at Manchester and post-graduate studies at Oxford. She stayed in O...

The Magnificent Stirling Falls

One of the two permanent waterfalls in world-famous Milford Sound, the Stirling Falls drops to a height of 146 metres and is fed by the glaciers just behind it.

The boat cruises take you right underneath it so prepared to get drenched by icy waters. Apparently, it also has anti-ageing qualities:-)

Have a beautiful day (or evening) my friends!

I'm off to Mongolia from Friday for 4 weeks so next post hopefully will be a landscape of this wonderful place:-)

How to Increase Skin Hydration
Water is one of the most crucial things we need to keep our skin looking younger.
Have you ever forgotten to water a plant for a very long time? Imagine what the plant looks like. The leaves dry out, get papery thin and brittle, and crack. Depriving the plant of moisture also makes the stems wrinkle and shrivel up. Now think about that happening to the skin on your body or your face. Without proper amounts of moisture, our skin will act just like the plant.

Here are a couple of different things we can do to boost the moisture levels in our skin:

Eat Your Water
Dr. Murad reminds us to "eat your water" all the time, and it's based on the Cellular Water Principle. Eating water-rich foods like fresh fruits and veggies helps your cells stay hydrated, strong and healthy. Everything in the body is connected, which means that if you're healthy on the inside, your skin will look stronger, healthier and younger.

This summer, add seasonal produce into your diet such as watermelon, peaches, asparagus, courgettes, green beans and cucumbers.

Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture - murad.co.uk/hydro-dynamic-ultimate-moisture
Topically, you can fight dryness and the visible signs of ageing with a moisturiser that contains humectants and emollients. Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture is a powerhouse moisturiser that intensely hydrates, absorbs easily and quickly into the skin, and is gentle enough for someone with sensitive skin. It's also filled to the brim with high-performance ingredients!

Avocado, Sunflower and Olive Fruit Oils and Shea Butter:
These ingredients act as emollients, or skin conditioners, and they are a very important factor in a moisturiser. An emollient forms a barrier layer that traps moisture on the skin and slows the evaporation of water, increasing the moisture levels of your skin. They also help your skin look and feel softer. Emollients help impart the silky smooth feeling you have on your skin after your moisturiser absorbs.

And there, in Spain, she met the man of her dreams. A man who liked fat girls. In fact, he liked fat girls a lot. The only trouble is, he couldn't seem to help sucking their fat. Night after night he visited June and day after day she got thinner and thinner.
In Spain they have a different kind of vampire!

The symbiotic relationship between ageing footballers and MLS transfers

Didier Drogba has joined Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in swapping a European superclub for MLS. That transition seems natural and sensible now but it's easy to forget that David Beckham was mocked for leaving Europe in 2007

The Climate Council originally shared this post:
Let's just bust this myth right off the bat: any claim that renewable energy will dramatically increase power bills is simply not supported by evidence. In fact, increasing renewable energy targets will have a minor impact on retail electricity prices, and actually often results in lower prices for households and businesses. As for many households, roof-top solar is already reducing power costs!

Moreover, investing in renewable energy is an important step to cleaning up and modernising our energy systems, as well as growing jobs, attracting investment and being good for our health and the environment.

Economic modelling has found that electricity prices for an average household would actually increase if Australia's Renewable Energy Target was removed. Not only that, but renewable power generation already competes on price with fossil fuels in many parts of the world, and the cost of generating renewable electricity is expected to continue to fall as deployment of renewable energy accelerates worldwide.

Renewables are also the cheapest way to replace Australia's ageing and inefficient coal-fired power plants, which will need to be replaced in coming decades regardless of action on climate change.

But of course, increasing renewable energy is about more than power bills! Increasing renewable energy is important for reducing pollution and tackling climate change. Research shows that to tackle climate change effectively Australia must achieve a minimum of 50% renewable energy by 2030.
